Kristan Outwater, MD

Board Member

Kristan Outwater, MD is a pediatrician who has been in Vermont for the past 10 years practicing General Pediatrics at Brattleboro Primary Care Pediatrics. She trained in Pediatrics at the Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC and in Pediatric Intensive Care at the Boston Children’s Hospital. She was Associate Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Tufts New England Medical Center, where she helped bring Pediatric Advanced Life Support training to Massachusetts. She moved to Michigan to be closer to her aging parents, and was a pediatric intensivist at Covenant HealthCare, a community hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. While in Michigan, she chaired the Child Death Review Committee for Saginaw County, and was the Health Advisor for the county’s Early Intervention Program for child developmental assessment and treatment. She also worked as a general pediatrician at Partners in Pediatrics in Saginaw and partnered with the county’s Community Mental Health group to provide mental health assessment and counseling in the primary care pediatric office. She and her husband returned to New England after she retired from intensive care medicine in 2013. She worked at Brattleboro Primary Care Pediatrics as a general pediatrician where she continued her interest in children’s mental health as it become a major issue for pediatricians over the past decade. She retired from Brattleboro Primary Care Pediatrics in 2022 but does occasionally fill in there when needed!

 

In all of the hospitals with which she has been affiliated, Kristan contributed to the Medical Staff. She served as a member of the Ethics Committee at the New England Medical Center, and as Chief of the Medical Staff and Chair of the Medical Staff Quality Improvement Committee at Covenant HealthCare. She was Chair of the Peer Review Committee at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and served on the Medical Staff Executive Committee before her retirement.

 

Kristan was an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics until retirement, chairing the Section on Critical Care and helping to create Leadership training for AAP members.

 

Kristan has been married to Joe Madison for 41 years, and they have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. They love living in Brattleboro and actively participate in its many cultural and outdoor activities.
