Louis Josephson, Ph.D, joined the Brattleboro Retreat as President and CEO in January 2016. He came to the Brattleboro Retreat from Los Angeles, Cal., where he had served as president and chief executive officer of Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services since July of 2013.

Louis Josephson, Ph.D, joined the Brattleboro Retreat as President and CEO in January 2016. He came to the Brattleboro Retreat from Los Angeles, Cal., where he had served as president and chief executive officer of Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services since July of 2013. During his tenure at Vista Del Mar he successfully instituted a modern strategic planning process, opened a new early childhood autism service, grew the organization’s philanthropic efforts, and introduced a quality initiative designed to track client outcomes.

From 2005 to 2013, Dr. Josephson served as president and CEO of Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., in Concord, NH. While there he successfully stabilized the organization’s finances, launched several innovative new clinical programs and established a new strategic alliance with the community health system. During the same period of time Dr. Josephson also served as vice president of behavioral health for Concord Hospital.

Prior to coming to Riverbend Community Mental Health, Dr. Josephson worked for three years (2001—2004) as the Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Child and Adolescent Services, a branch of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. In this position was responsible for strategic planning and regulatory review for New York City’s child and adolescent mental health, substance abuse, and mental retardation/developmental disabilities programs. He came to that position from the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation where he served as the director of Family Court Mental Health Services.

In 2013 he received the New Hampshire Psychiatric Society’s Excellence in Leadership Award. Dr. Josephson holds a doctorate in clinical social work from NYU, a master’s degree in social work from the Columbia University School of Social Work, and bachelor’s degree in English from Tufts University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
