Annie Miller Balzer began her nursing journey at Westchester Community College, earning an AS in Math and Science in 1983, followed by a BSN in Nursing from the College of New Rochelle in 1986. As a student, she was actively involved in leadership, serving as President of the Student Government at Westchester Community College in 1982-83 and being honored with the Key Award.
Annie joined the Brattleboro Retreat in 2012 as a night float nurse and quickly advanced to Clinical Nurse Manager for Tyler 3, the adolescent unit. In 2014, she explored a new path in visiting nurse work, but her passion for working with adolescents drew her back to the Retreat in 2018. Over the next five years, she served as charge nurse on Tyler 3 and later resumed her role as Clinical Nurse Manager for the unit.
In her most recent role, Annie oversaw the transition to two adolescent units, leading Osgood 2 (LGBT unit) and temporarily reopening Osgood 1 as an adolescent floor during renovations. She successfully launched Osgood 2 as a permanent adolescent unit after the remodeling was completed.
Outside of her professional life, Annie is an avid gardener with a deep interest in herbology and foraging. She enjoys spending time with her big dogs, playing guitar, and visiting family and friends. Annie loves exploring new trails in the forest and is passionate about working with adolescents, a group she finds incredibly rewarding.
